The purpose of this website is to empower reflection on (product and) user experience design and to collect stories, opinions and reflections on best practice.
In the spirit of positive thinking it is hoped to keep the vast majority of the content oriented towards examples of success and not of failures (especially other people’s). That said, not all the examples here are written by the designers of those products and experiences.
We have not included ‘case studies’ as the intention is to keep the stories short and to the point – the valuable content here is the stories, but they need to be embedded (as illustrations) in reflections, or in presentations of new (or unfamiliar) or tools.
Anyone who has stories, reflections, opinions, methods or just general content to contribute should use the Contact Us form to start a conversation.
We have avoided the use of comments and discussion because of the chaos, security and maintenance issues that can result – but this is up for discussion of course.
Please use the ‘Contact Us” form below to initiate a conversation about our process and what is needed.
David has been involved in the design of products and the human factors of those products for over 40 years.
He and his team were some of the first to provide evidence of the need for a new concept of user experience as an alternative to the terms ‘usability’ or ‘user-friendly’.
He now provides reviews, mentoring and coaching for user research, user experience and product design.
Too much of the writing on UX and UI design is about processes rather than actual outcomes, leading to the easy assumption that simply following the process is enough. Our primary goal, therefore, is to collect stories of actual UX and UI design together.
These stories serve as the evidence for more reflective pieces (perspectives and opinions). Such evidence is needed to help us persuade others of the importance of what we do, and of the importance of doing it well.
Too often the argument for UX design is predicated on the broad business value of design and the information here is intended to help change that conversation from ‘whether’ there is value in (UX) design, to a discussion of how much value in any given case.
